The NUCLEO-L476RG incorporates the STM32L476RG ultra-low power microcontroller and supports both ArduinoTM UNO V3 and ST morpho connectivity features. A wide choice of specialized shields are being offered here, with some also proposed by STMicroelectronics.
Further features of the Nucleo-L476RG can be offered with the integration of the on-board ST-LINK/V2-1 debugger and programmer. This eliminates the need for any separate probe. Designers can also be flexible with regards to the power supply using either USB VBUS or external source (3.3V, 5V, 7 – 12V) or a power management access point. The USB port supports three different interfaces: A virtual COM port, mass storage and a debug interface.
Delivered for the STM32 Nucleo board is the STM32 comprehensive software HAL library including various packaged software examples. ARM mbed implementation sits on top of this HAL, thus ensuring high portability together with usage of specific STM32 features when it’s valuable. A new board from STMicroelectronics might be very appealing to ARM mbed users: the STM32L4 IoT Node Discovery Kit (DISCO-L475VG-IOT01A) features an ultra-low power STM32L475 microcontroller to ensure optimized power consumption for IoT devices. The board contains a broad collection of wireless connectivity options including Bluetooth® V4.1 module (SPBTLE-RF), an 802.11 b/g/n compliant Wi-Fi® module, dynamic NFC tag based on M24SR with its printed NFC antenna, and a sub-GHz (868 or 915 MHz) low-power programmable RF module (SPSGRF-868 or SPSGRF-915). These connectivity channels can transport data obtained from the various onboard sensors: 2 digital omnidirectional microphones (MP34DT01), capacitive digital sensor for relative humidity and temperature (HTS221), high-performance 3-axis magnetometer (LIS3MDL), 3D accelerometer and 3D gyroscope (LSM6DSL), 260-1260 hPa absolute digital output barometer (LPS22HB), and a Time-of-Flight and gesture-detection sensor (VL53L0X)
The Arduino™ Uno connector is still present, thus allowing further extensions of this board’s features.
Another development platform offered by STMicroelectronics is the STM32F769I-DISCO discovery board. It provides Ethernet, USB, LCD, audio and Wi-Fi connection. Complex design opportunities can be realized with this kit as it comes with audio, multi-sensor support, graphics, security, video and high-speed connectivity features.
