The band “Brunettes Shoot Blondes” tells a heartwarming love story about a rabbit using multiple screens from different Apple devices. The clip is an incredible combination of live action camera and animation, perfectly timed and synchronized between a multiple number of iPhones, iPods, MacBooks and iPads with different screen sizes.
We asked Andrew Kovalov (on the left in the picture), the front-man of the band who came up with the idea 3 questions about the song and video.
This video is a great idea, how did you come up with it?
Thank you. We wanted to shoot a clip on our new song Knock Knock, thinking that black and white minimalistic animation would be perfect for this song. Than we had an idea of graphic elements which would interplay between the gadgets. After all we created the characters and started to work on synchronization of the video fragments, uploaded on different devices.
How did you manage to have the pictures playing so perfectly on all these devices? And how did you produce the clips for all the different display sizes?
After the animation was finished it took us a plenty of time to calculate each fragment to seconds in Adobe Premiere for each device according to its size, so everything could be synchronized. That was the biggest challenge. We had been working for several months on the scenario and the technical side of the video. When even everything was done we faced another problem, that everyone should be really focused while moving the gadgets plus everyone should press “play” at the same time. After several rehearsals we could run the fragments on all devises simultaneously. We had dozens of takes before the perfect one.
The song “knock knock” sounds kind of sad, what is the background and story behind it?
I can’t say there was any special situation behind this song. I just had a melody in my head with several lines. Probably the story is sad but it could be in a real life and it has a happy ending.
The music video already had its own happy ending as it has been watched more than 4.7 million times (at the time this article was published) on YouTube and helped the band to get recognized all over Europe. We wish “Brunettes Shoot Blondes” success with their upcoming studio album; if you want to stay on top of the news about the band go to their website or connect with them on Facebook.
